Evžen
Evžen is a meerkat you and your children will fall in love with. He’s extremely playful, curious, but mainly, he’s our online shop’s mascot. He’ll lovingly dress your mini-Julčas from head to toe, and he also thinks about the mums. Plus, he’s a true protector. He’ll take care of the kids in road traffic, since you’ll find his iron-on reflective patches on jackets and trousers.
He makes sure that functional materials keep children warm. Unuo clothing is tweaked with high trouser waistbands that protect the back. Everything has to be put on quickly and easily…That’=s why you won’t find complicated fasteners or buttons, and your mini-Julčas will be able to dress themselves on their own.
Not to mention, the clothing grows with your children, so you don’t have to worry about burdening our planet with waste or taking extra money out of mummy’s wallet every month for a new size. Evžen promises that the soft shell clothing will last at least two seasons – Julča’s honour!
Unuačkas
…are everyone who work at unuo and unuodesign - yes, even the guys are called Unuačkas :-) And, at the same time, it’s also the community of all of our loyal customers that follow us on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Basically, it’s everybody that is happy to dress their mini-Julčas in high-quality functional clothing.
Julča
is actually the alter ego of the Petra Plemlová – the company’s owner, boss and mum, but Julča, unlike the rest of us, regular women, is always able to manage everything, and everything is a piece of cake for her.
Petra’s story begins at the age of five in her hometown of Krnov, where she sewed her first stitch using her neighbour’s sewing machine, had the chance to take a peek at the various sewing techniques such an experienced seamstress used, but mainly it was the place where she fell in love with sewing. During her internship, the freshly-graduated kindergarten teacher realised that being a teacher is extremely hard work. The not-so-easy task of dressing up the kids…a zipper here, a button there, suspenders everywhere. She kept asking herself: “Hasn’t anyone invented trousers that kids can put on by themselves?”.
Fate brought her to Prague, where she experienced the bitterness of life at the age of 28. As a single mum following a complicated personal situation, she had to take care of two babies and another two children by sewing cloth nappies and other pieces of clothing. She was left with large remnants of fabric, so she started thinking, “Why not try selling the remnants?” And that’s the start of the rollercoaster ride…first selling through Fler.cz, bathing, sewing, feeding, cutting fabric, selling cloth nappies, communicating with customers, and finally, opening an online shop. The company grew and in 2016, Petra decided to hoist the anchor, and move to the city of Tábor in Southern Bohemia.
That’s when things really took off…the first rented spaces – a small garage totalling a few square metres filled with fabric from floor to ceiling and the first few Unuačkas, who wound the heavy rolls by hand, and mainly huge demand from customers for the fresh fabric designs and clothing. And as fairy tales usually go on…one move after another, constantly searching for larger and larger spaces. Starting with a few square metres and ending up in a 1 000m2 hall; starting with a few rolls of fabrics to a warehouse filled with thousands of metres of fabric; from nappies to our own designer soft shell collections. Starting out with five Unuačkas and now with almost 70, and mainly the drive to keep on putting one’s heart into doing business, being local, doing it with love, and with respect for the indispensable Czech handicraft. What’s next? We have no idea, but we’re looking forward to it:-)
